A-Level

Ages 16–18 · Key Stage 5

A-Level Programme

Depth. Independence. Future Direction.

A-Level study marks the transition from broad secondary education to deeper academic specialisation. At RezOne British Academy, our Key Stage 5 programme combines rigorous subject teaching, personalised academic challenge, independent enquiry, and structured progression support.

Learners are prepared for recognised A-Level qualifications while developing the analytical thinking, intellectual independence, research capability, and personal responsibility required for university, degree apprenticeships, advanced technical education, and professional life.

Our programme is particularly suited to gifted, talented, neurodivergent, and exceptionally curious learners who benefit from smaller teaching groups, deeper subject exploration, responsive academic mentoring, and the flexibility to pursue ambitious individual goals.

The RezOne Difference

A-Level education should do more than prepare learners to reproduce specification content under examination conditions. It should develop the intellectual maturity to question assumptions, evaluate evidence, construct arguments, solve unfamiliar problems, and take increasing ownership of learning.

Academic Depth
Subject knowledge extended through wider reading, research and advanced enquiry
Intellectual Independence
Learners develop the confidence to question, investigate, argue and defend ideas
Human Judgement
Evidence, uncertainty, technology and AI are approached critically rather than accepted automatically
Academic Mentoring
Regular guidance supports progress, organisation, workload and ambitious goals
Future Direction
Academic choices are connected to university, apprenticeships and professional pathways

Personalisation does not reduce academic expectations. It provides the right combination of challenge, structure, flexibility, feedback, and support to help each learner meet demanding expectations successfully.

Curriculum & Subjects

Learners typically study three A-Level subjects over two academic years. Subject combinations are agreed through an individual admissions and academic-planning process, taking account of prior attainment, interests, progression goals, workload, and entry requirements for future study.

Subject availability is confirmed annually and may depend on cohort demand, staffing, timetable compatibility, awarding-body arrangements, and minimum viable group size.

Entry Requirements & Academic Planning

Successful A-Level study requires secure prior knowledge and readiness for substantially greater depth, independence, and workload. Admission is therefore based on the individual learner rather than a single universal entry threshold.

  • Review of GCSE results, predicted grades, or equivalent prior attainment
  • Subject-specific readiness considered for each proposed A-Level
  • Discussion of interests, academic strengths, workload, and future ambitions
  • Consideration of university or apprenticeship entry requirements where these are already known
  • Review of independent-study readiness and any support requirements
  • Individual agreement of an appropriate subject combination before enrolment

International or home-educated applicants may present equivalent evidence of prior learning. Where appropriate, additional academic discussion, assessment, or subject review may be used to establish readiness.

Learning Beyond the Specification

A-Level success requires secure knowledge of the examination specification, but exceptional learners often need opportunities to go further. Our programme therefore combines disciplined qualification preparation with wider reading, research, debate, interdisciplinary thinking, and independent intellectual exploration.

  • Advanced reading beyond the minimum examination specification
  • Independent research and extended analytical writing
  • Seminars, debate, discussion, and evidence-based argument
  • Interdisciplinary projects linking subjects and real-world challenges
  • Academic competitions, lectures, publications, and enrichment opportunities where available
  • Preparation for demanding university courses and competitive progression routes
  • Opportunities to explore personal interests with guidance from subject specialists

Our aim is not merely to help learners reproduce knowledge under examination conditions. It is to help them understand their subjects deeply, challenge assumptions, evaluate evidence, and develop ideas they can explain and defend.

Our Teaching Approach

Teaching at Key Stage 5 is live, academically demanding, and increasingly independent. Subject specialists provide explicit instruction, expert explanation, discussion, feedback, and structured guidance while learners take growing responsibility for preparation, wider reading, organisation, and reflection.

  • Live subject teaching in focused online groups
  • Clear curriculum sequencing aligned to appropriate A-Level specifications
  • Regular seminars, discussion, problem-solving, and analytical writing
  • Individual feedback and targeted academic intervention
  • Responsive extension for learners ready to move beyond standard expectations
  • Support with study habits, organisation, revision, and workload management
  • Thoughtful use of approved digital and AI tools where educationally appropriate

Personalised Challenge & Support

Key Stage 5 learners do not all require the same pace, level of structure, or form of challenge. Our approach adapts to the learner while preserving ambitious academic expectations.

Greater Academic Depth
Extension reading, advanced problems, research and subject enrichment
Neurodivergent Support
Clear structure, accessible resources and flexible ways to participate
Independent Learning
Organisation, self-regulation, reflection and academic ownership
Ambitious Progression
Preparation aligned to university, apprenticeship or professional goals
Intellectual Confidence
Discussion, debate, presentation and defending an evidence-based position

Qualifications & Assessment

Learners are prepared for recognised A-Level qualifications through appropriate UK awarding organisations. Subject specifications, examination-entry arrangements, practical requirements, centre access, and any additional costs will be confirmed as part of programme planning.

  • A-Level preparation aligned to recognised UK awarding-body specifications
  • Regular formative assessment and structured written feedback
  • Timed examination practice and mock examination cycles
  • Progress reviews informed by multiple forms of academic evidence
  • Targeted revision planning and intervention where needed
  • Guidance regarding practical endorsements and subject-specific requirements where applicable
  • Assessment judgements remain subject to qualified human review

Indicative Weekly Structure

The precise timetable depends on subject choices and the learner’s individual programme. A-Level study also requires substantial independent preparation, reading, practice, and assignment work beyond scheduled live lessons.

Per Subject Indicative Weekly Commitment
Live teaching sessions 3 × 60 min
Seminar, discussion or problem-solving session 1 × 45–60 min
Independent reading, assignments and practice Approximately 4–6 hours
Academic tutorial or mentoring 30–45 min, scheduled individually or fortnightly
Enrichment and progression activity Variable according to pathway and goals

Indicatively 12–15 live hours per week across three subjects · Substantial structured independent study · Regular feedback, assessment and academic mentoring

AI Literacy & Academic Integrity

Post-16 learners must be able to use artificial intelligence critically, responsibly, and transparently. AI literacy is therefore embedded across relevant subjects through the RezOne Human Decisions Framework™.

  • Understanding how AI-generated outputs are produced and where limitations may arise
  • Evaluating evidence, accuracy, bias, uncertainty, and source reliability
  • Distinguishing appropriate assistance from authorship and academic misconduct
  • Disclosing and referencing AI use where required
  • Following subject-specific and awarding-body assessment requirements
  • Retaining intellectual ownership of arguments, analysis, and conclusions
  • Recognising that accountability cannot be delegated to an automated system

Some learning activities may invite carefully documented use of AI for critique, comparison, research planning, or reflection. Other tasks will require entirely independent work. Learners must be able to explain, justify, and defend every submission as their own genuine academic achievement.
